Check out how chiropractic therapies in Richmond VA might be a good treatment option. Whatever the degree of pain you are experiencing and whether it is acute or has become chronic, at the very least you would probably rather live without it. In the most extreme cases in can be difficult to go on living with it.

Soft Tissue Therapy in Richmond VA

Soft Tissue Therapy Treatment is the assessment, treatment, and management of soft tissues of the body, i.e. muscles, connective tissue/fascia, tendons, ligaments and joints. Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds muscles, bones, nerves, and organs of the body. Fascial tension/restrictions can result from trauma, immobilization, disease, posture, or inflammation.  Various techniques, including Myofascial Release, ART, and Graston, are used for the effective treatment and rehabilitation of soft tissue and fascial tension/restrictions.

  • Increased flexibility
  • Improved range of motion following injuries
  • Reduction of chronic conditions such as neck and lower back pain
  • Helps prevent running injuries and improves performance
  • Decreases treatment and recovery time
  • Reduces over-the-counter painkiller usage
  • Cervical sprain/strain (neck pain)
  • Rotator cuff tendinosis/tendonitis (shoulder pain)
  • Patellofemoral disorders (knee pain)
  • Plantar fasciitis (foot pain)
  • Shin splints
  • Tension headaches
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Shoulder strains, including frozen shoulder
  • Bursitis
  • Tennis elbow
  • Sciatic nerve pain/sciatica
  • Achilles tendinosis/tendonitis
  • Costochondritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Hip flexor strain
  • Lateral epicondylosis/tendonitis (tennis elbow)
  • Lumbar sprain/strain (back pain in the lumbar spine region)
  • Medial epicondylosis/tendonitis (golfer's elbow)
  • Posterior tibialis tendonitis (medial tibial stress syndrome)

Myofascial Release Technique

Myofascial Release Technique is a form of manual therapy that stretches the fascia. The goal of Myofascial Release Technique is to relieve pain by improving skeletal muscle mobility, blood and lymphatic circulation while simultaneously stimulating the stretch reflex in muscles. Myofascial Release Technique addresses several components related to scar tissue formation. For example, Myofascial Release Technique can help relieve acute injuries, including tears or collisions that can happen during exercise, or micro-trauma, which is the gradual wear-down of tissue that's often caused from aging and inflammation.

Active Release Technique

Active Release Technique is a type of soft tissue therapy that helps relieve tight muscles and nerve trigger points, greatly reducing joint stress and muscular pain. The goal of Active Release Technique is to restore normal mobility and "glide" between muscular tissue and nerves. Active Release Technique treatment has a unique protocol that consists of very precise, targeted movements, most of which are done by the patient. Each Active Release Technique session is different and custom-created to treat the patient's problem depending on the location and severity of the symptoms.

Graston Technique

Graston Technique is a form of soft tissue mobilization that uses specially-designed stainless steel instruments alongside appropriate therapeutic exercise. The goal of Graston technique is to improve scar tissue, fascial restrictions, range of motion, and associated pain.

Wobbling

The Wobble Chair is a therapeutic exercise designed to maximally pivot and hydrate the ligaments, discs and tissues of the spine. While this therapeutic exercise begins in the lower back, various movements address hydration of the entire spine.

Thoracic Roll

The Thoracic Roll is a therapeutic exercise designed to mobilize the thoracic spine (mid back) and build core strength in the neck and low back, when performed properly.

Cervical Wall Traction

The Cervical Wall Traction is a therapeutic exercise designed to hydrate the spine from the neck down to the low back. This repetitive type of traction hydrates the discs and ligaments of the spine, and helps to restore the cervical and lumbar lordotic curves. Unlike many other traction devices, this one does not require water or sand and has a hook for over the door use when at home. This device is very easy to travel with, making therapy while on vacation or for our frequent flyer patients very feasible.

Fulcra-Spinal Molding

The fulcra are designed to initially reshape or "mold" the spine back to the "s" shaped curves. Initially the fulcra are used while lying in bed, after sufficient wobbling has been performed. After you are able to tolerate lying on the fulcra in bed for 20 minutes, you graduate to lying on the fulcra while on the floor. After you are able to tolerate lying on the fulcra on the floor for 20 minutes, we will begin the fulcra exercises and eventually improve to the advanced fulcra.

Fulcra Exercises

There are three different levels of Fulcra exercises. These exercises are designed to build spinal muscle strength while the spine is properly curved. This way your spine will be able to hold the curves once you remove the fulcra.

Head and Body Weighting

The results our head and body weighting patients experience are far superior to those who do not! Each patient must be tested to qualify as a candidate for head and body weighting. Not all spines are able to tolerate this type of therapy. But for those spines that can tolerate it, the results of care are far more accelerated.

The weights are worn based on your specific spinal and postural distortions. They are worn immediately following any in-office spinal adjustments, as well as at home for the pre-determined amount of time needed by your spine. Once your optimal results have been achieved, you will decrease the frequency and/or time you need to use these weights until your spine has stabilized. You and the doctors will discuss your individual needs and plan.

Muscle Stimulation

This passive therapy is used for our most acute patients with muscle spasms and inflammation. The electronic muscle stimulation flushes out the inflammation in the tissues and decreases the muscle spasms before you receive your adjustments. This helps you receive the most productive and effective adjustments possible when you have an acute spasm or injury.
